Jimmy Irvine Bella 10k

Sixteen Harriers competed in the Jimmy Irvine Bella 10k held in Bellahouston Park with Gregor Yates leading the team home in fourth place.

Hosted by Bellahouston Road Runners, the race was the seventh event in the club's winter championship.

Conditions were slightly chilly as runners huddled at the top of the park's hill for the start before completing the ten twisty kilometres to the finish.

Winding up in fourth place in a largely solo run, Gregor Yates led the way for the club and was rewarded with a new personal best of 33:22. In contrast, Darren McQuade had a pack to run with for the majority of the race. But like Gregor, he was ran a new PB of 34:31 and sixth spot after pulling away from the pack in the later stages.

John Whitener dipped under 37 minutes for the second time this year while Neil Nairn took over a minute off his PB to dip convincingly under the 40 minute barrier. Mark Porter nicked another fifteen seconds off his previous best while Donald Kennedy ran his third sub 40 of 2016.

Janine Dickie was the first lady for the club with Suzanne Boyle less than a minute further back and Helen Stevenson next over the line.

Rebecca Simister took a whopping three minutes off her previous 10k PB and in doing so moved to the top of the club's winter championship.

John Beckett and Alison Cairns both ran below 50 minutes while Tom Keenan and Ian MacLeod were split by thirty seconds.

Claire Fitzsimmons was another Harrier to take a large chunk off her previous best, finishing in 52:17, while Deirdre Hoyle and Christine McKay ran 54 and 56 minutes, respectively.
